For 2012, the Speedo Open Water Swim Series returns to Eton, the stunning rowing venue for the 2012 Olympics on Sunday 27th May for a festival of open water swimming!
Open water swimming in a venue like Dorney Lake is an amazing challenge whether you are an elite or a beginner with the event featuring four distances, from 750m up to the iconic 10k ‘swimmers marathon’. Dorney Lake, with its clear water, accurate marker points and clear lines of sight provides a great place to take on your first open water swim or go for a great time in one of the longer disciplines.
As with every event in the series, the Eton Swim provides unparalleled levels of water safety with the experienced and knowledgeable Human Race Water Safety Crew looking after you at every stroke. You can choose from 750 metres, 1500 metres, 3 kilometres or the challenge of the full 10 kilometre swimmers marathon.
After some great feedback from the 2011 Series participants, we have decided to open up the non-wetsuit option to all swimmers, provided the water is over 14 degrees on the day. All you have to do is select the non-wetsuit option when you enter online. So if you are training for a channel crossing, or just want to immerse yourself in the full ‘open water swim’ experience, this is the event for you! Don’t worry, you can still use your wetsuit on the day if you like.
All swimmers will receive an event swim cap and an exclusive Speedo Swim Series medal engraved with the Eton Swim race and date – so you’ll be able to collect the full set through the series! Event-specific t-shirts are also available for purchase via the event entry page and there will be lots of goodies on the day from our event partners.
The Eton Swim is great for spectators who can watch the action from various vantage points around the course. The bridge by the start is a great place to see the swimmers begin their challenge, while a tarmac path that runs the length of the course means you can follow the action all the way, cheering as you go of course! After its success last year, we will be bringing back the two on-course nutrition stations for the 10k swimmers, along with the cake-filled Recovery Tent for finishers!
The venue also boasts ample, free onsite parking and some great facilities for both pre and post event relaxation and recovery. Shower facilities, changing rooms and lockers are all available within the boat house and further facilities will be available in the marquees in the event village – including our retail partners in case you forget your goggles, or worse, your Speedos!
