Sandbanks in Poole, the fourth most expensive place to live on the planet and home to the Speedo Open Water Swim Series for one day in September!

With race HQ in the stunning beachside Sandbanks Hotel and a swim course that tracks the coast down the Sandbanks peninsula and back, this really is sea swimming at its best. Taking place on Sunday 16th September, the Poole Swim includes swims of 750 metres, 1500 metres and 3 kilometres, making it perfect for beginners and experienced sea swimmers alike.

As with every event in the series, the Poole Swim provides unparalleled levels of water safety with the experienced and knowledgeable Human Race Water Safety Crew and local experts from the Poole Lifeguards looking after you at every stroke. After some great feedback from the 2011 Series participants, we have decided to open up the non-wetsuit option to all swimmers, provided the water is over 14 degrees on the day. All you have to do is select the non-wetsuit option when you enter online. So if you are training for a channel crossing, or just want to immerse yourself in the full ‘open water swim’ experience, this is the event for you! Don’t worry, you can still use your wetsuit on the day if you like.

All swimmers will receive an event swim cap and an exclusive Speedo Swim Series medal engraved with the Poole Swim race and date – so you’ll be able to collect the full set through the series! Event-specific t-shirts are also available for purchase via the event entry page and there will be lots of goodies on the day from our event partners.

The Poole Swim is great for spectators, with vantage points at the front of the Sandbanks Hotel and  all the way down the beach. There are some great opportunities for supporting your loved ones from the beach and photographing some of the great sights both out to sea and back inland. This is definitely an event where bringing a camera is a must!

Changing areas, baggage store, retail outlets, food, drink and toilets will all be available from the hotel. We will also soon be releasing details of an exclusive offer to all swim participants in conjunction with the Sandbanks Hotel, perfect if you are looking to make a weekend of it.

Wetsuit Rules

SpeedoOpenWaterSeriesWetsuitPolicy

The organisers (Human Race) have always strongly advised the use of wetsuits for safety reasons.

However, swimmers will have the option to wear a wetsuit or not as long as the water temperature is 14°C or above.

The following rules apply for the use of wetsuits:

Water Temperature Competitor Advice
Water temperature 14°C or above Wetsuits are optional for all swimmers. However, it is recommended that only experienced open water swimmers participate without a wetsuit.
Water temperature below 14°C It is compulsory to wear a wetsuit. No swimmer will be allowed to enter the water without a wetsuit.
Water temperature below 11°C Cancellation/postponement of the event.

At the online registration stage we will ask for your predicted time. This time will determine which wave will be suitable for your swimming ability. Be realistic about your predicted time as the wave allocations are created for the benefit of you as a swimmer.

And remember the use of a wetsuit adds extra buoyancy, warmth and allows you to swim a bit faster!!!
