With race HQ on the stunning beachside area of Branksome, the Speedo Spring Swim follows a course that makes for an exciting sea swimming at its best. Taking place on Sunday 6th May, the Swim includes distances of 500 metres, 1000 metres and 1.5 kilometres meaning there is something for everyone that wants to wash away a winter spent in the pool in style!
Who is the Speedo Spring Swim for?
The looped course and three distances on offer means the event is perfect for beginners and experienced swimmers alike. We all know the Open Water Swimming community thrives on fresh, new challenges and an early season open water swim with an expected sea temperature of around 10 degrees certainly falls into that category!
Even if you aren’t an experienced swimmer, taking to the sea in Spring is the ultimate way to bring in the new season, revitalise yourself after the Winter and take on a fresh new challenge in the lead up to a Summer set to be packed full of sporting endeavour in the UK.
If you took part in the Speedo Open Water Swim Series (or any other open water swimming event) in 2011, the Speedo Spring Swim is the ultimate way to take on something new and challenge yourself further. It’s also a great way to prepare for a season of triathlon or prepare for a longer swim challenge later in the year.
Keeping You Safe
As with every event in the Speedo Open Water Swim Series, the Spring Swim provides unparalleled levels of water safety with the experienced and knowledgeable Human Race Water Safety Crew backed up on the day by local experts from the Branksome Chine Surf Lifesaving Club.
We’ll be there to keep you safe, so you are free to enjoy swimming at its most natural and revitalising!
Non-Wetsuit Option Open To All!
After some great feedback from the 2011 Speedo Open Water Swim Series participants, we have decided to open up the non-wetsuit option to all swimmers. All you have to do is select the non-wetsuit option when you enter online. So if you are training for a channel crossing, or just want to immerse yourself in the full ‘open water swim experience’, this is the event for you!
Don’t worry, you can still use your wetsuit on the day if you change your mind, or if conditions mean you rethink your brave decision! We do also highly recommend you wear a suit if you are not familiar with Open Water Swimming or if you are particularly susceptible to the cold – it is the Spring Swim after all!
Swim Series mementos
All swimmers will receive an event swim cap and an exclusive Speedo Swim Series memento of the Speedo Spring Swim race– so you’ll be able to collect the full set through the series! Event-specific t-shirts are also available for purchase via the event entry page.
If May is too soon, try Poole in September!
The Speedo Spring Swim isn’t your only opportunity to take to the sea in Poole. If 6th May seems a little too soon, why not sign up for the Speedo Poole Swim on Sunday 16th September? The water will be a little warmer and you’ll have the added bonus of being part of the WindFest, a weekend of windsurfing, wakeboarding, beach parties and much more. Find out more here.
